Farewell UZ Arts
UZ Arts, the Glasgow-based, international arts company announced its closure on April 1st 2020.
The company opened in 1994 as UZ Events and became the charity UZ Arts in 2010. In that time, it has commissioned and programmed 1000s of artists to play to an audience of many millions across Scotland and the UK. UZ has commissioned artwork and productions that have been exhibited or played in South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, USA and in many countries across Europe. UZ founded
IN SITU, the European network of festival directors and
Sura Medura, the international artist residency centre in Sri Lanka.
Said Neil Butler for UZ, “UZ was created to support, innovative and challenge artists and create festivals and events where they could meet the widest possible public. It has been a privilege to work with Scottish artists and audiences and our co-producing partners across Scotland from Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire to Glasgow and Edinburgh. We are proud to have brought international artists to Scotland and taken Scottish artists to audiences across Europe and beyond.”
Neil Butler will continue to make his own work and support artists through mentoring, consultancy and Sura Medura.
