Location: Falkirk
Venue: Stirling Road Playing Fields
Dates: 11 August 2002 to 11 August 2002
UZ worked with BBC Radio 1 and Falkirk Council in consultation with the relevant authorities to deliver a second One Big Sunday event in Falkirk. The event first visited Falkirk as part of the inaugural Big in Falkirk festival in 2000 and was so successful that Radio One chose to return in 2002.
UZ, with Falkirk Council, held the responsibility for organising and managing the event as a whole: delivering site safety, operations, concessions and liaison between all parties.
Now in its third year, Radio1’s One Big Sunday has become a permanent feature in the diaries of all music fans. Four locations hosted the 2002 event (Swansea, Ipswich, Falkirk and Leicester), Falkirk being the third outing and the only Scottish date. Radio 1’s One Big Sunday is a one day event that takes the form of a large music stage playing host to a variety of chart-topping acts. Two hours of the show were broadcast live on Radio 1 and the event was also film recorded and aired on BBC Choice on Sunday 18 August.
The final line-up at Falkirk included Sophie Ellis Bextor, Sugababes, Darius, Toploader, Hundred Reasons, and Blue. Jamie Theakston, Steve Lamacq and Nemone presented the show and despite the pouring rain an audience of over 30,000 braved the elements and joined the party. The audience profile was wide with the main audience comprising of the 15-24 yr age group.
