Vault Art Glasgow
9-11 September, 2011, The Briggait, Glasgow
Announcing a new contemporary art event for Glasgow
In September 2011, UZ Arts, in association with Patricia Fleming Projects, will present a new contemporary art event for the city. Vault is an opportunity for members of the public, collectors and galleries to invest in Glasgow’s contemporary artists. Twelve innovative galleries and organisations have been selected to present a diverse range of work for sale by contemporary artists from Glasgow and beyond: a snapshot of one of the most original and exciting contemporary art scenes in Europe.
Glasgow’s reputation within the international contemporary art sphere has never been higher: Glasgow artists Richard Wright and Susan Philipz’ consecutive Turner Prize wins in 2009 and 2010, and the presence of Martin Boyce and Karla Black on this year’s shortlist are the most recent visible examples of the city’s considerable influence. However, as yet there has been no single, focused, platform bringing together leading names alongside those emergent and early-career artists who make the city so vibrant.
Curator-led, Vault has been designed specifically for the recently-refurbished WASPS Briggait building, and is working with some of the city’s most exciting galleries and artist-led studios to present work for sale. A programme of guided tours and workshops will run alongside the event, welcoming buyers and encouraging them to consider adventurous new directions in contemporary art.
Participating organisations include The Briggait, David Dale Gallery & Studios, Glasgow Print Studio, Glasgow Independent Studio, IRONBBRATZ, Lapland, Market Gallery, The Mutual, Street Level Photoworks, SWG3, and Volume. Jenny Brownrigg, Exhibitions Director, The Glasgow School of Art will curate Vault’s first New Views section, presenting a selection of this year’s graduates.
‘There has never been a more exciting time for the contemporary arts scene in Glasgow. Vault will see the newly refurbished Briggait building brought to life, and promises to be one of the most popular contemporary arts events of the year.’ Chair of Glasgow Life, Councillor George Redmond
‘Creative Scotland, through the Own Art scheme, is delighted to support the inaugural Vault event in the transformed Briggait building. Vault will be an exciting and innovative opportunity for people to enjoy, and buy, contemporary art in Glasgow.’ Andrew Leitch, Own Art, Creative Scotland.
